Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today went very well. We went over homework problems that the student had emailed to me. They all dealt with parametric equations. Some involved finding the equations of tangent lines, arc length, instantaneous and average rate of change, etc. For the most part, she was able to work out most of the problems on her own, it just helped to work together to set them up. She seemed a lot more confident in how to solve these types of problems by the end."
"Student worked on both her reading and math homework. She does not need much encouragement once she gets started. After the session I spoke to her mother, and for the future we will only be covering math even if she has other homework assignments."
"Student and I worked on surface area problems, using the arc length integral formula to find the surface area of a solid of revolution. The first couple problems were slow going, as usual, but we got into the hang of it. Like other questions of this complexity, there are a lot of steps involved and often the problems get complex. Attention to detail and checking work is very important. A small error, such as incorrect rounding, can compound and lead an answer off even though the problem was solved mostly correctly. Good work overall!"
"Today we worked through the student's Geometry Review. I downloaded some formula sheets for his reference and study. Our next session is scheduled for Tuesday."
"We worked on more math today, prime factorization and more work with equations and expressions. These topics are going to be covered on a quiz tomorrow. The student does well on most of this, he struggles the most with writing expressions. We will continue to work on this in future sessions."
"We worked on strengthening the student's algebra ability. In particular, he needs to work on solving first degree equations with one variable. Mastering this concept is vital in succeeding in all areas of math. I showed him some worksheets to practice until he becomes completely comfortable with the material."
