"I met the student for the first time. The student has been learning Chinese at school for about 4 months already. He's struggling with remembering the characters and the pronunciation of the words. So I divided our session into 4 parts. First I introduced him the 3 general concepts of logic in Chinese characters. In explaining the concepts, I also gave several examples on each to show him how it works. In the second part we practiced 4 tones in detail, analyzing the sound of 4 tones and using different examples to exercise the inflection of the tones. I used a little tongue twister for him to be aware of difference in 4 tones. The third part was numbers and the fourth part was conversation. I engaged a Q&A session to see where he's at and what he's working on. We'll continue our practice of tonality, construction of characters and basic dialogue next time."
"I went over "Pinyin" quickly with the student. We also reviewed animal section and started on the fruits & vegetables section."
"The student and I are getting into the groove of doing homework together. We finished reviewing half of her weekly homework booklet today."
"I met with my student and her mother to review the content for tutoring sessions. The student was quite shy, so we spent our time reading books in Spanish. We also practiced phrases in Spanish and talked about phrases the student hears in her classroom."
"I started by asking her what she wanted to cover and she said she struggled to know the difference between two verbs SER and ESTAR. After doing a little bit of practice with her we found out that she doesn't really know the verbs so we did some practice learning them as well. She improved by the end of the session. When we did some practices she had trouble remembering basic vocabulary as well. We did practice with the verbs online and I gave some sets to her to review on her own. I especially recommended that she do the "Speller" activity to practice typing and spelling the verbs. She could also use that website to review other vocabulary, she didn't know basic words like "tomorrow". Next week I'll put up some more lists for her, but she can put some up on her own as well. She had a great attitude and was fantastic!"
"I was happy to hear from my student during this session that after our first session, she had gained more confidence in Spanish to raise her hand more and sit in the front of the class. She informed me that within a week her grades have gone up. She continues to be a delight to tutor. This session we reviewed from last time, went over her homework, went over uses of the verbs tener and venir, went over forming questions properly in Spanish, and went over subject/verb agreement. She continues to show strong aptitude for Spanish. With proper studying and time put in by her, I am confident that she will master Spanish."
