Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I used this session to work on both his Social Studies and his reading comprehension, using his Social Studies reading assignment and study guide homework as a basis for our work. I asked him a number of questions that were similar to, but not quite the same as, his homework questions to check his understanding of what he was reading and to encourage him to summarize the book's ideas in his own words. We worked on slowing down, and even take the longer words one syllable at a time when necessary, and I encouraged him to ask questions when the words in the text turned out to be ones that he didn't know. I also helped him begin to recognize where one thought or topic ended and the next began."
"We prepared for the student's final examination. We went over her notes and how to write an essay that gets a high grade."
"Today, I helped the student with World History reading comprehension questions, which required some longer paragraph responses. The topic was New Imperialism. He grasped concepts quickly once difficult vocabulary was translated and explained."
