Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we continued learning how to conjugate verbs in the present tense, both regular and irregular verbs. We also learned how to place conjugated present tense verbs into a sentence with other parts of speech, including nouns, other verbs, and adverbs to create sentences such as "I like to ride my bike" and "My father wants us to fly to Germany tomorrow." I asked the students to practice putting together more sentences on their own, using the vocabulary that they have so far learned. All of the students are motivated and patient. They love learning and seem to really want to understand German, which is great to see among younger learners."
"We practiced the new words and phrases (food and drink) using akkusativ. We also learned how to order a dinner at a restaurant. We introduced a different main clause word order using conjunctions, as well as adverbs of time."
"We practiced verbs today, and did some work on numbers, time, and pronunciation. Next week, there will be a test! EVERYTHING you have learned so far will be tested. This includes vocabulary, conjugating verbs, getting the right endings on ein/mein/kein/etc words, and the basic phrases we have learned. There will be a written section and dictation."
"We reread a chapter in the student's book "Im Garten der Feen" together and worked on comprehension. We did some vocabulary and grammar exercises in her workbooks, mostly about animals and verbs. I assigned the verbs for homework, and next week, we will go over the conjugation of some with stem vowel changes. I also assigned the chapter we read, to read it again and describe what happens in simple sentences."
"We reviewed Preteritum, and started Passiv. I gave the student a couple of tricks for remembering cases and conjugations. The student was struggling with Passiv a bit, but made good progress nonetheless! The student's homework is about a page of Passiv construction."
"We reviewed the grammar charts and rules for articles and their declensions. I had the boys do some written grammar exercises and then also fill in the blank exercises out loud with the correct declension. We also practiced speaking for the last 30 minutes of the session and practiced their pronunciation and forming sentences."
