Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered rounding for Math which was tricky, but then she caught on to space values as well as key words in the question. We worked online for her homework, doing multiplication arrays which were tricky for her. We also worked on spelling word sorts, long vs. short u, and review sheet for her social studies vocab test."
"We covered spatial reasoning and logic (online game), abstract thinking/problem solving (word problem/puzzle), and order of operations. I left him with one follow up order of operations problem."
"We covered time, including reading a clock and understanding how it worked. We also spent time working on basic addition and subtraction, including an analogy for how addition worked. She was very energetic, eager to show off her math skills, and listened attentively. She has a tendency to get confused with skills she already has, which we will work on through repetition in her next session.
"We did a review and practice for the student's Math test tomorrow. I also did multi-step word problems and commutative property. We then went over quiz problems she missed and worked others like those from the same publisher. We also reviewed homework and any that she needed extra work on. The student's mom scanned and sent many pieces of work and quiz which was extremely helpful. Also had a dialogue about which area she needed the most support."
"We did a very hard ISEE practice problem that used the Pythagorean Theorem, which the student had not encountered before. We did that problem together, and then I made up a problem for him to do on his own. Next we tackled some ISEE verbal questions mainly concerning vocabulary."
"We did both math and writing this session. The student told me she had some trouble with an algebra word problem this week on a test. I showed her the steps to solve that type of problem, and we did a few together. She solved the last one on her own without issue, so we moved on to practice her 4 and 6 times tables. She is getting better and got all but 2 right. Then, we moved on to writing. We practiced writing a cause and effect paragraph. She wrote about her dog getting muddy and all the effects of that. She did great!"
