Barrington Tutoring FAQ

Varsity Tutors is a trusted resource for anyone who wants to connect with a tutor for students in Barrington, Rhode Island. No matter if you are the parent of a student at Middlebridge School who needs a little extra help with their AP courses, you are looking to perform at your best on the GMAT, or anything in between, we can make sure you find the kind of tutoring experience you are looking for.

Studies have shown that students who seek help from a tutor are likely to see better test scores, and higher grades than those who study on their own,, regardless or grade level, or academic ability. Though it is often thought that tutoring is only for students who struggle, working with a tutor can benefit strong students, who want to be the best that they can be, as well. But tutoring isn't always about grades. Sometimes tutoring is simply about learning something new, or following a passion, like photography or French.

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Barrington?

Each individual who signs up for tutoring for students in Barrington is going to be looking for a learning experience that is unique to them. A parent of a Barrington High School student who could benefit from the help of a test prep expert in anticipation of the ACT isn't going to want the same thing as someone who needs some guidance for a university-level science class at Barrington College.

If you need regular sessions with a language tutor over more than one term, you might be paying a lower per-session rate than someone who has signed up for fewer sessions. Because we want to respond in each case with the tutoring a student or parent might be looking for, and because the different circumstances in each of those cases are going to be factors in figuring cost, we can't really say there is a set price for tutoring. Reach out to our educational directors and they can give you pricing options that reflect your specific needs.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in Barrington?

There's practically no limit to the number of subjects we can help you find tutoring for. Whether you have your sights set on law school and you want someone who can help you to be prepared as possible going into the LSAT, or your young learner needs some reinforcement outside the classroom for basic math skills, we can connect you with a tutor for students in Barrington who will meet your needs.

Why choose Varsity Tutors for tutoring in Barrington?

If you are looking at finding tutoring for students in Barrington, you want to be sure that you are connecting with someone who has the skills and background to provide an effective learning experience, someone who has both subject matter expertise and experience with the nuts and bolts of tutoring, things like writing individualized lesson plans, effective assignments, and so on. That's a lot, and it's understandable that you might find that task daunting.

You can rely on Varsity Tutors, and our years of experience, to connect you with a tutor who can provide you with what you are looking for. Tutoring review by Jana in Barrington, RI
We went over factoring equations and setting them equal to zero to solve. For example w^2=13w, we set the equation equal to zero then factored the equation prior to solving. Therefore, w^2-13w=0, so w(w-13)=0. Then you set each portion of the factoring equation equal to zero to solve. For example w=0 and w-13=0; therefore w=13. The answer in our answer choices was written as {0,13}. In addition, we worked problems which we plotted on the graph and stated what the vertex was and line of symmetry as well as matching the graph to the equation.

We reviewed 3 more state exam practice tests. We went over word problems, fractions, long division, measuring, area/perimeter, and other items covered on these tests. I tried to provide test-taking tips, and advised him to get into the habit of checking his work, checking all possible answers, writing out his work (so he doesn't make mistakes), and slowing down. He understands most of the concepts on the test.

Student 1: First, the student and I worked through his algebra packet for an upcoming retake test. I made sure to emphasize how to systematically use "what you know" from the wording of the problem to solve for what is being asked. We also reviewed important definitions which he will need to know for the test including vertex (and how to find it), y-intercept and x-intercept, domain and range. I encouraged him to look over his review packet and to let me know if he had any questions. Student 2: I worked with the student on balancing chemical equations and predicting reactions. We began by reading through the write-up I had created which detailed, step-by-step, a strategy for balancing equations that related it to her algebraic principles. Additionally, we spent some time discussing strategies for predicting reactions and I gave her some rules of thumb to help in this regard. I was glad to see that she felt much more comfortable identifying and balancing these equations, and I encouraged her to email me any questions she may have.

Tutoring review by Lucas in Barrington, RI
We are still dealing with differentiation, but this time the focus was on optimization problems. The student seems comfortable with taking derivatives but struggles to come up with the relevant formula for the problem. This is a difficult section, and in general, the only way to get better at translating from word problems into equations is to practice them. Math equations are like a separate language, and in order to get better with the language, one simply needs to practice correctly. Thus, with practice, I feel that he can master this material in time for his upcoming test.

The student has a quiz tomorrow on trigonometric functions and the unit circle. We went over the main points and she is going to ask her teacher on some topics she was unsure on. We also went over a little bit of AP Bio and her past test.
