"After introductions, I had the student start the first practice test so I could assess his strengths and weaknesses. He started with practice test 1, section 2. While completing section 2, he crossed out answers he believed to be incorrect, finger traced the paragraphs to find his answer. He completed the first 9 questions at 7 minutes and 19 seconds. He did not show much body language while taking the first section. He had his arm across his body and kept his eyes on the test. While answering questions for the first longer passage, he went back to look for the answer. He seemed to scan very quickly and go right back to the questions. I gave him a five-minute warning and he was on question 20. He finished the test at 22 minutes and 58 seconds. He finished with 13 correct answers, 11 incorrect answers, and no questions omitted. He started section 3 of practice test 1 (mathematics). Math is the student's favorite subject and his strongest subject. He crossed out answers he believed to be incorrect, used his calculator, used his fingers to trace and look at diagrams/pictures, and wrote out math problems as needed. He finished with 21 correct answers, 2 incorrect answers, and omitted 1 question. The last thing I had him complete was section 10, writing. This was a quick 14 question/10 minute section. I told him to read each sentence, skip answer A, because it is what is already in the sentence he just read, and then look at answers B-E. If nothing sounded right or he wasn't sure of an answer to say it in a different voice in his head. I also told him to be careful when it comes to commas that the sentence has to scream at you for a comma or else omit the comma. I also told him that commas are like a break or breath and to read it that way. He finished in 8 minutes. He finished with 4 correct answers, 10 incorrect answers, and did not omit any questions."
"This was my first session with this student, so I used it to gauge where she was at with the test, generally speaking. She had taken a science and math section prior to the session, and scored in the high 20s on both. We spent most of the time going through an English section, which she also did well on! She knows the majority of the material."
"We went over the student's practice writing sample, talking about strengths and weaknesses and ways to improve. We also talked about time management. Then, science and English practice."
