Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reading, grammar, and math. We had an excellent session and the student did well. But one note: he does need to do the practice test at home."
"Today we started by going over the results from the student's last session and reviewed the 5 questions that she got incorrect. We then discussed the English section of the ACT test and what she had done in the past. She said that she does not read the whole thing but looks for each question and reads what is needed to answer the questions. She finished the English section in 42 Minutes 58 seconds. She had a little over 2 minutes left if needed. She scored 64 correct answers, 11 incorrect answers, and did not omit any questions. Her ACT score was 27, which is up 5 points from the last time she took a practice test. Next she completed her writing piece. We discussed the importance of details in her examples and how 2 examples would be enough and make sure she added details to these two examples. She finished the writing section in 20 minutes and 30 seconds. She scored a 9 overall on her writing piece."
"The student was really concerned about the ACT writing section, so we drilled down on that for this session. We tried to work out which section would be best to do first, which one to skip, and if her trouble was more from reading slow or comprehension. She got 8 out of 10 correct on our last section, with ten minutes on the clock, and could easily do that on two more sections, skipping and picking C on the last of the four reading sections, which would give her at least a 19. She has the skills; I hope I can help with the confidence! We worked on underlining in the passage, crossing out the wrong answer, and managing time. I know she can get a 17, which is just what she needs for her 19 overall. She felt pretty confident about math and English, so we glossed over those sections, and we talked about science, but really spent our time drilling with the reading. I sent her home with some testing tips, and she should do well!"
