The student and I prepared for her exam tomorrow by covering reflexive verbs (meanings, conjugations, and usage) and verbs with prepositions. We did speaking exercises, textbook work, and she wrote out answers that I corrected. We simulated sections of the exam by practicing parts of the test together like translation drills.

We continued to practice verb meanings and conjugation in preparation for the student's "flashcard final". I am confident in his abilities to do well on that exam. He can conjugate really well and can do it for first, second and third persons. We also covered question words today because I noticed earlier that he sometimes mixes them up. We played "twenty-questions" to practice our question-asking skills. I also drilled him on his verbs. I asked him to practice his conjugations and verbs until our next session. He is doing great, and I feel like he is getting much better at his verbs.

The student and I began with some worksheets on the subjunctive vs. the indicative, filling in the blanks with both the past and present forms of the appropriate tense. He did a great job remembering the major uses of the subjunctive and the instances in which it is used, recalling acronyms like WEIRDO and ESCAPA to determine whether the given verb should be conjugated into the subjunctive or the indicative. He also remembered how to conjugate the imperfect subjunctive tense very well, dropping the "-aron" ending of the third person preterite form of the verb and adding the appropriate past subjunctive ending. After grammar, we practiced listening with the classic Cuban song, "Guantanamera," and the song from the opening credits of the show "Narcos," whose words were difficult to comprehend but well translated by the student when we broke the songs down line by line. We finished with some listening practice using online audio clips, with which he did very well.
