Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over online homework that concerned adding and subtracting rational expressions. He had no difficulty combining rational expressions that had common denominators. It was more challenging to combine expressions that have unlike denominators by first finding the least common denominator and then changing both the numerator and denominator appropriately. He remembers most of his factoring formulas, except for the sum and difference of cubes, which we made sure to review."
"We reviewed his homework, which covered algebraic word problems and numerical problems. He did very well. We will continue working on understanding the principles behind algebraic problems."
"In this session, we went over how to do integrals involving inverse trig. He was going to have a test the next day so we worked on various problems. He found that in order to do well on the test, he needs to learn how to manipulate the given function (within the integral) so he can get it to look somewhat similar to the arcsin, arccos, arctan, or ln functions. Overall, this was a good session in which he got a lot of practice done."
"The student went over several pages of his math book, which consisted of identifying fractions, adding and subtracting multiple digit numbers, multiplication, and word problems. He did a great job today! I assigned him two pages of homework and we played his arithmetic game toward the end of the session."
"The student is taking Algebra II and needed a review before a test on Friday. Generally, once I explain how the pieces of something fit together, she does fine with the information. The number "i" is a little confusing for her still, but with practice, she'll nail it down."
"I went over the definition of the derivative with the student and worked a few problems. He did well with the problems, but there was some questions with the meaning of the derivative and how it was derived. After addressing those, he had a significantly better understanding."
