"Today the student and I worked on the knowledge bundle for sections 15.1 and 15.2. He also worked some chi square practice problems that were assigned for homework. He seems to have a good grasp on these concepts."
"The student had her midterm before the winter break, so this lesson was the first of the new semester. She had a chi-square analysis worksheet based on genetics that we worked on together. We then started with an overview of mitosis and meiosis, and the differences between the two, followed by a detailed overview of meiosis."
"Continued to review test prep questions from his instructor. We also reviewed previous labs. We discussed experimental error and experimental design. I gave the student practice questions at the end of our session."
"We went through her exam review for taxonomy and genetics. Also we covered the natural selections and all the factors than can affect the gene follow. She was doing good and she knew almost all of them."
"The session was to review the first semester of AP Biology and tackle sections that were difficult for the student such as heredity. This is the first session and student reported that he has gotten an A the first semester. I let the student know to practice the key terminology for each section."
"We discussed cell signaling and what happens during reception, the signal transduction pathway, response, and amplification, using G protein linked receptors as an example. We went over the stages of the cell cycle: inter phase and the mitotic phase and the check points. Finally, we discussed factors that control the cell cycle such as apoptosis and how cancer can arise."
"Today was a short session because the student just started learning new material. He has begun to cover gene regulation and bacterial/viral replication. We are waiting on the most recent test scores. He tells me he had an easier time with the essays on his last exam because of an example essay we looked at previously. He needed a few clarifications of the role of RNA, but this is expected since he just started covering the material. I am leaving him with some sample essay questions he will practice write prior to our next session."
"The student had her midterm the next day. Her exam would be assessment test level questions so we went over the practice test that she took and did some general reviewing. We covered biochemistry, the parts of a cell, mitosis and meiosis, genetic inheritance, and cellular respiration. She seemed pretty confident with the practice exam and did not have too many questions. She felt very well prepared by the end of our session"
"Went over Geometry- right triangle theorems (45-45-90, 30-60-90) and practice problems. Then reviewed for her AP Biology test on Friday on Molecular Biology (DNA Replication, Transcription, Translation, and differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes). Geometry went smoothly, but Molecular Biology was very dense. She seems to understand it though. Some of the questions asked by her teacher are pretty difficult, but she seems to understand the basic concepts."
"Today we worked mostly on genetics. We covered Punnett squares and inheritance patterns as well as genotype vs. phenotype comparisons and distinctions. We worked through a few conceptual problems as well."
"We covered in vivo gene cloning, including the pre-lab for pGLO gene transformation experiment. She finished her homework for the upcoming week, except the post-lab, so she is now ahead of her work. I clarified the process of a 90 degree rotation in her geometry homework."
"The student and I went over material that she needed to know for her exam tomorrow. She has an exam tomorrow over Lewis structures and intermolecular forces. I explained to her how to draw Lewis structures, find bond angles in VSEPR problems and how to distinguish molecular geometry from electron geometry. She seemed to have a good grasp of all the material when I left."
