Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student got through English (one lesson, a quiz, and a discussion assignment), geometry (Module 7 unit pretest), Spanish (a week's worth of lesson and class work), health (a unit on respiratory health and its assessments), her freshman seminar (a PowerPoint presentation on goal-setting, a related worksheet, and an academic plan discussion assignment), and a brainstorming worksheet for her academy project. We covered a lot of ground today and I continue to be impressed with her work ethic and motivation."
"Yesterday, the student and I spent some time reviewing everything he has coming up the next week. He has no major tests coming up, but he does have a few papers. He worked on the rough draft outline for his history paper on the movie Apocalypto yesterday. He also has an in-class essay coming up on Tale of Two Cities."
"Today the student and I worked on algebra and vocab to prep for his quiz. We then talked through the next steps for his thesis paper and organized how to expand it from 2 to 6 pages. We then looked through his new SAT book and discussed test techniques and options."
"It was a great session today. The student expressed to me that he received 100% on the balancing chemical equations worksheet as well as getting the bonus points on the extra credit question we worked on. He then brought out his world history textbook and assigned practice questions. We worked on chapter 15 and assigned sections 1 and 2, went through bold terms and key persons during the Renaissance period, then went further into section 2, to discussed North Renaissance. Finally, we finished up with ASVAB arithmetic reasoning. We completed one whole section of a practice exam, and we then went through the correct and incorrect answer choices."
"During this session, I assisted the student with two math worksheets. One worksheet covered measurements (feet and inches), and the second worksheet covered different concepts such as graphs, tables, perimeter, multiplication, and division. I also helped him study for an upcoming spelling and vocabulary test."
"We covered time management and organization skills. We created a schedule for homework after school, read and discussed two articles regarding time management and study prep, and discussed how to organize binders for each class. The student will create a weekly calendar on her door with color coded tasks to indicate the level of priority. She did well on her finals since she began tutoring. We are working to start her off strong so that we can maintain her grades as opposed to attempting to catch up. I left her with two additional readings regarding study skills."
