We covered graphs of functions, their derivative (slope), and their second derivative (concavity). We also examined some limits and tangential functions. The student seemed to have some trouble differentiating graphs of the derivative versus the graph of the function itself, so we focused heavily on understanding the meaning of "increasing", "decreasing", "concave up", and "concave down", among other such items. He displayed a good attitude towards the material, and the session overall was very good.

We covered higher degree polynomials. The main problem the student was having was with graphing. He had trouble remembering how the degree of the function affected the shape of the graph, and how the transformations changed each graph. However, after some work with this, he seemed like he would be able to remember how to set up the graph and transform it in a table, and then graph the newly made table.

We covered homework material and material that will be on Thursday's test. The student needs to memorize the z-equation and standard distribution percentages prior to the test. Also, remember to read the question fully before answering. Stats can be both confusing and tricky. Also, remember to familiarize yourself with the calculator operations. I have confidence that she will do well on the test, based on her understanding of the material.

We covered how F-prime and F double prime correlate to F(x) and how to draw graphs of F-prime and F when given F or F-prime. We also went over optimization, the mean value theorem, and the extreme value theorem. I cleared up the difference between local/relative and absolute/global and how local max/min can be absolute too. The hardest idea to get across was graphing F from F-prime, but this just comes with practice. The student understands a lot but just needed little things clarified.
