Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We met from 1-3 at the bookstore. We reviewed reading comprehension techniques for her upcoming assessment tests. I provided a series of college level texts with comprehension questions like those that would be seen on the actual exam(s) and walked through the process of arriving at the correct answers. She showed improvement by the end of the session and was using text evidence to answer the questions."
"First time again with the student after September test date. Working only on reading this time as other test scores improved well for September test date. Still trying to find a system where the student can balance the need for speed with accuracy. Attempting several new possibilities on practice section this week."
"The student is doing pretty well with all the material we have covered. We will be meeting one more time to do a final review. She should definitely pass the exam this time. I am very confident she knows what to do for each problem. "
"Today we prepared for her history final. We looked up possible topics to answer her test questions, page numbers, and discussed how to approach each essay question. I feel that the student now has enough information to go off of and has a good idea how to answer each test question thoroughly and exact."
"The student and I began the session this evening by reviewing analogies types. We completed several practice problems. He then completed sample problems concerning division and averages. He then completed several math practice problems. He did a wonderful job on the math problems involving averages. Nice work!"
"We worked on the concussion paper pretty much the entire time. Hopefully we should have that done pretty soon. Tomorrow we are either going to finish that up or work on the History Day project."
"We started our session with reading. We reviewed all four portions of the test and the student did wonderfully!! We decided that she does really well on all areas but needs to review choosing the topic of the passage. We will continue to work on this. She then took a timed reading test and we found that she does need work on finding the main idea without focusing on the details. We worked on the science portion of the test - going over the different types of tables and graphs. We practiced these at length. We will continue to focus on reading in our next session."
"The student and I worked on both informative and fictional prompts today. We focused on working under the conditions that he would have during the test: timed, not being able to erase, and having to proofread as he goes."
"The student and I went over his quiz review sheet in preparation for tomorrow. We went over mean, median, mode, range, MAD, & IQR. He was still confused about the MAD and the IQR, so we went over those in further detail and I wrote down the steps for him for both."
"The student is working on expanding her vocabulary. I gave her about 20 new words to read. She also worked on subject verb agreement. We also started a new book. She was able to answer questions regarding setting and what was happening in the book."
"We started with review of parler and avoir and then worked with -er, -ir, and -re verbs, focusing on verbs that could be used in the story. We talked about transitive verbs, direct and indirect objects, using rendre as an example."
"We did our monthly assessment to check the over all progress. The writing test consisted of the days of the week and 5 complete sentences. Memory test for translation: connecting French expressions to their equivalent in English."
