What skills can be covered with a Tucson tutor near me for students who struggle with executive function?

Since tutoring is a personalized experience, the educator has the ability to tailor instruction to your student's individual needs. For instance, the teacher could use a 504 Plan or IEP you provide to build a study plan or simply create a new one from scratch. The private instructor is also able to utilize teaching methods that best align with your student's learning style. For instance, if your student is an aural learner, the educator can read books that feature riddles or play with words in other ways and talk through them to help with flexible thinking skills. If your student is a visual learner, the tutor could use visual planners to help improve planning skills.

Tucson tutoring for students who struggle with executive function is a fantastic way for your student to build stronger executive function skills such as working together with others and focusing on the most important point in a discussion. It's not uncommon for students having difficulty with executive function to struggle with organizing their thoughts, following directions, using new ways to solve problems, or switching their focus from one task to another. With help from a tutor who is qualified to work with students struggling with executive function, your student can feel better able to complete these and other important tasks.

What are some advantages of working with Tucson tutors for students who struggle with executive function?

Private instruction gives your student the opportunity to benefit from being the educator's sole focus. This is in opposition to a classroom setting in which the teacher would have to divide attention among many students. That's not the only advantage of Tucson tutoring for students who struggle with executive function. We carefully interview each tutor to ensure your student works with an instructor who is fully knowledgeable about the role of executive function.

As a parent, you play a vital part in helping your student improve executive functioning skills while away from tutoring sessions. By working with the personal instructor, you can learn strategies like making new rules for games played at home to help with flexible thinking skills or having your student make notes when reading to help strengthen working memory. You could also learn how using a smartphone can help your student stay on track and discover ways picture schedules can help your student stay organized. If your family opts for online sessions, it's good to note that the Live Learning Platform records sessions so you can always go back and refresh your knowledge of what was discussed with the tutor.

Session summaries by Executive Functioning tutors

Executive Functioning Tutoring review by Amy in Tucson, AZ
Today was our first day, so we started off with some study skills hints: study class notes, chapter summaries, test yourself on old tests, and review what seems to be difficult.  I think the student liked this idea, or at least the idea of having some sort of system set up. We also worked on his Geometry homework, which was primarily concerned with calculating slope and identifying special quadrilaterals (rhombus, parallelogram, trapezoid, etc).

Today, the student and I began by working on his homework assignments. His spelling words  for this week are "can" and "at", so we completed a worksheet that focused on "at" and practiced writing the words. After we practiced tracing capital letters, I asked the student to write them on his own. His alphabet was much improved from a few weeks ago, and he only struggled with a few letters. Next, we practiced the letter V. At first, Jack wrote the letter upside down, so we talked about why the letter was not correct and practiced writing it with "the point towards you". We completed a few other "V" activities and finished with a game to practice the spelling words.

Today we worked on word problems involving the addition and subtraction of fractions.  The most challenging part for the student was transforming the words into the appropriate equations.  Once the equation was established, however, she was able to solve without too much difficulty.

The student and I did her homework on sample spaces and additional worksheets involving probability.  She had few questions in the work and showed a good understanding of the material.  We also looked ahead to the worksheet involving independent probabilities.

Executive Functioning Tutoring review by Jeremy in Tucson, AZ
The student and I spent most of the section on critical reading today. We spent quite a long time on vocabulary. Rather than going over the words with him, I asked him to do a section of multiple-choice vocabulary for me. We went over the rules for guessing again, and afterward moved on to critical reading. We discussed the passage and the need for being precise in great detail. In addition, we talked some more about probability, permutations, and combinations, did a little bit of writing, which he performed very well on, and finished out the session with the discussion of main idea and purpose which I had asked him to fill out previously.
