My son has ADHD, Anxiety, Dyslexia AND a learning disability. He's always attended private schools for learning disabled children, but when we had to move, public school and an IEP were the only option. I called VT in desperation because he was failing across the board and was so distressed. I know he just needed the right environment in order to thrive. After a couple tearful sessions with the VERY PATIENT tutor, my son began to "get it". Once he did, there was no stopping him!

Private executive function support in San Diego, CA

Receive personally tailored Executive Functioning support from exceptional tutors in a one-on-one setting. We help you connect with in-home and online tutoring that offers flexible scheduling and your choice of locations.

Varsity Tutors is aware of how challenging it can be for families when one of their students has a hard time in school. We can connect you with a San Diego tutor for students who struggle with executive function. Executive function broadly covers all of the brain's self-regulation system. Students who have trouble with this system often struggle to organize, plan, and complete tasks that others have no problems with. One way to give the student in your family the support and guidance they can use to improve their skills and confidence is by utilizing the assistance of a tutor who is experienced in helping students who struggle with their executive function.

You may become aware of your student's difficulty with executive function at any step throughout their education. These struggles with executive function are commonly found in those who have been diagnosed with ADHD but can also occur in students who don't have ADHD. If you see that a student in your family is having difficulty with executive function, San Diego tutoring for students who struggle with executive function could be just what they need to help mitigate the negative effects this is having on their academic life.

What types of skills can be covered through working with a San Diego tutor near me for students who struggle with executive function?

The private instructor that we pair your student with can take a number of factors into consideration as they plan study sessions. They can choose to use an existing IEP or 504 Plan as a starting point for these lessons, or they can design a fresh customized plan of their own in an attempt to capitalize on your student's personal learning style. For example, if your student struggles with organization but learns well visually, their instructor might use colored labels to keep school materials in order. If they are more of a kinesthetic learner, the tutor could conduct a physical routine to help them remember what they should keep in their backpack.

The guidance that is provided by a San Diego tutor for students who struggle with executive function has the potential to supplement your student's formal education in a way that leads to a better grasp of the skills necessary for strong executive functioning, such as the management of impulsivity and emotional responses. Students who have trouble with these executive functioning skills can experience behavioral outbursts or interrupt class, which can lead to them having a negative attitude toward learning in general. The support of a private instructor can help them build a more positive outlook toward their education.

What advantages are there to working with a tutor for students who struggle with executive function in San Diego?

There are a number of benefits available to both students and their parents who decide they want to work with San Diego tutors for students who struggle with executive function. Perhaps most substantial is the opportunity to receive the undivided attention of a qualified academic mentor, as opposed to a traditional classroom environment where each student gets a small percentage of the teacher's attention. We evaluate instructors before pairing you with them to ensure they are experienced in helping with executive function skills.

These instructors can also help you, as a parent, to implement organizational strategies for your student to practice outside of their study sessions. San Diego tutors for students who struggle with executive function have the ability to teach you everything from how to use games to improve your student's sequential thinking skills to how to streamline checklists and visual planners to make the learning process as efficient as possible.

Session summaries by Executive Functioning tutors

Executive Functioning Tutoring review by Nick in San Diego, CA
We reviewed sections on the market models for Pure Competition and Monopolies. We concentrated most of our focus on analyzing the interaction between different variables in the short run and long run and how they react to change. For the second half of the session, we looked ahead to touch on Monopolistic Competition and Oligopolies, wrapping up with some more practice problems for Monopolies. Overall I think the student had a very thorough understanding of the material and wanted to reassure himself of his understanding. It will be of great benefit to him though to handle lots of practice questions and material after he covers all four market models in class.

Great session with the student where we reviewed open-ended questions from his assignment on marginal utilities, demand change, international trade, and income elasticity. We also went over his most recent class topic - externalities. The session was very productive.

I also think that working on the released FRQ's will help her feel more confident in that she sees that the questions are mostly based on the same framework and get much easier as you practice. I told her to work on an FRQ on her own if she has time, and I will answer any questions that arise.

for first half of section, went over workbook section of elasticities, mostly price elasticity of demand of demand, as well as three other elasticity formulas. practiced using the formulas and spent ample time explaining the concept of elasticity. Spent the second half of the session going over his math worksheets on exponential functions. Practiced graphing them, finding asymptotes and intercepts, and telling if it is growth or decay. Very bright student, responds well to teaching, quickly picks up material.

Executive Functioning Tutoring review by Shelby in San Diego, CA
This session, the student and I revisited the class notes and budget variances. We went through the class notes before working through the chapter extra credit quiz. The student understood the concepts right off the bat, and although we had to discuss residual income for a bit - he grasped that concept quickly. Any issues that he had we were able to address in the quiz - specifically with respect to calculating a flexible budget and/or flexible budget variances. He got a 100% on the quiz (and nailed the conceptual questions). He is going to work through the practice problems independently and we will address any problems and pick up on the next chapter this coming Friday.
