My son has ADHD, Anxiety, Dyslexia AND a learning disability. He's always attended private schools for learning disabled children, but when we had to move, public school and an IEP were the only option. I called VT in desperation because he was failing across the board and was so distressed. I know he just needed the right environment in order to thrive. After a couple tearful sessions with the VERY PATIENT tutor, my son began to "get it". Once he did, there was no stopping him!

Executive Functioning Tutoring review by Robert in Portland, OR
We worked on Chapter 3 and 4 Simulations today. The student really got the hang of a lot of concepts, I believe that he learned a lot during the session. The amount of information and learning material that is needed for the exam is overwhelming so there is always something new to learn. We will meet again this Wednesday!

The student and I spent the session going over journal entries for bad debt expense and uncollectable accounts. I think she is starting to get the hang of it. She has a big quiz next week so we will have another session before the quiz.

Executive Functioning Tutoring review by Shelby in Portland, OR
In this online session, the student and I covered end of period adjustments. We focused primarily on one chapter problem; however, we did briefly discuss conceptual aspects of closing and adjusting entries - specifically the main types of adjustments to be made and the purpose of closing entries. The student had a fairly solid grasp on journal entries and debit vs. credit effects, but I would ideally like for him to be able to know these second-nature. Sometimes the (Dr.)/(Cr.) effects didn't carry over into the adjusted trial balance even though he had them correct when recording the journal entries. I advised him to work on this as well as mathematical errors. It was a very productive session. In the next session we will continue with the balance sheet portion of the problem.

During our session, the student and I went through the key concepts in Chapter 4 covering the Income Statement (multi-step format, discontinued operations & extraordinary items), Statement of Comprehensive Income, and Cash Flow Statement (indirect vs direct method). Then he completed his online homework assignment for Chapter 4. He received a 100%. He also completed an online extra-credit assignment covering Chapter 5 concerning Revenue Recognition. As Chapter 4 and beyond contains more complex material, I have advised that he read the textbook to assist him in learning the course material. He has a midterm coming up on October 22nd that we will begin to prepare for beginning at our next session on October 14th.
