"We completed worksheets on fractions in preparation for the student's fraction test this week. She also did two short multiplication worksheets."
"The student and I reviewed math. We worked on adding fractions with like denominators, and comparing fractions with like denominators or like numerators."
"The student and I worked on mixed numbers, improper fractions, and long division in this session. We started off by identifying what mixed numbers were, and writing them given shaded shapes. We discussed also drawing shapes given a mixed number. We did a few practice problems where she was able to intuitively figure out how to add or subtract mixed numbers, with and without shapes. We then moved on to changing improper fractions to mixed numbers, and we did so in a few different ways. First we discussed long division, and how she could divide using the grouping method. Then we talked about long division with remainders, how to divide when the number is too small, and finally how to write out all the steps. After doing so, we looked at how to change an improper fraction to a mixed number using long division and remainders. We then talked about decomposing improper fractions into parts and then recomposing into a mixed number. Finally, we discussed how to use common sense to figure out how many wholes exist in a mixed number. We ended the session by playing a game of war in which we flipped over cards, and she had to figure out whose cards displayed the larger fraction. She seemed to readily pick up all of the information, even things that they had not yet covered in school."
"In today's session, the student and I worked on graphing various functions. Specifically, we worked with recognizing reference functions, and then using certain types of transformations to graph more complicated functions."
"The student and I worked together on a worksheet about finding domain and range. Problems varied from determining if a graph represented a function or not and determining the domain and range of the given problem. She seemed to participate by the end and was able to give correct answers when prompted."
"Yesterday, the student finished his trigonometry packet. We covered synthetic division, long division, trigonometric functions and solving system of equations using matrices. We were able to finish his packet and go back to review matrices again. He asked several questions about things we had covered previously. Overall, I believe the session went quite well."
