Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on his homework, which consisted of creating dialogues in French around various subjects. We also practiced speaking by having conversations aloud. The student is worried that he can't react quickly enough in conversation, but his vocabulary and speaking ability have improved significantly."
"We did practice samples of questions, sentences with dir/ indir object, pronouns, and adjectives/ adverbs. We also reviewed tense and conjugations and all of the exceptions that can frequently happen in French grammar. At the end of the session we created a to-do list for her to use as she finishes up preparing for the final exam. She needs help with keeping a grip on all of the rules and exceptions, and remembering to apply them all when constructing complex sentences. Her confidence is getting much better though, and she feels prepared going into the exam. I was sure to go over good test-taking skills- i.e. time management, prioritizing, and double checking."
"Today I helped the student review prepositions with countries, U.S. states, and cities. I broke the session down into discussions of to/in and from in French. I would then give him the name of a country and state and have him provide the proper preposition. We also discussed various verbs that could work with discussing places (to be from, to be born, to live somewhere, and to move somewhere from somewhere else). We then discussed family vocabulary from the unit as well. After finishing with that, we began a reading where I asked him to read each sentence then translate it. He is doing very well with transliteration, and he seemed very comfortable with the material discussed during the session as well."
