Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, I helped the student study for his midterm. We focused on providing outlines of the essay topics, and I answered his questions about specific areas, especially the Industrial Revolution."
"The first student and I worked on a problem set on percentages/discounts she had for math review. The second student finished some Spanish and humanities homework, and also read a few chapters out of "Chains," to prepare for a quiz."
"During this session we continued our review of the 50 states. We began by reviewing the state names and locations on a map. Then we worked on the postal abbreviations. I had a map of the US printed out that labelled each state with its postal abbreviation. This way, the student could start to associate the state's shape and location on the map to the postal abbreviation as we did earlier with the state name. Doing this also served to reinforce the state name and location. Then we moved on to capitals. I had a couple worksheets printed out with the capital name scrambled. She had to unscramble the capital then write in what state it was the capital of. As this activity served as an introduction to some of the state capitals there was less of a focus on her memorization of what state the capital belonged to. We will continue this next week if possible and I will bring additional worksheets to guide these activities."
