Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered a range of topics in solutions chemistry, including osmolarity, molarity, a review of iso-, hypo-, and hypertonic solutions, responses to these solutions, equilibrium constant calculations, saturation, and pH. Additionally, we worked through how to incorporate all of these concepts into our calculations, and discussed general acid-base chemistry. The student has gotten much better at the algebra part of chemistry and was able to swiftly complete problems today."
"We talked about a schedule for the student and things he needs to do before next session. We also went over stoichiometry problems to help him prepare for his test next Tuesday."
"We reviewed the problems the student had lost points on his Math test and he seemed more confident in the areas he made mistakes. We also did Physics problems relating to kinetic and potential energy and conservation of energy. In Physics, his class had been tasked to develop a system where a dropped egg will not break so we discussed some ways he might go about solving that problem."
"Concepts: Brief review of VSEPR theory, hybridization of orbitals, dipole moment, states of matter and their properties, intermolecular forces, intermolecular forces, and types. Attitude: Positive, motivated to reason out the why of a solution. Strategies: Organize how you solve your equation - want, have, how. Extra Practice: Work on review sheets Concerns/wins: The student did a great job today!"
"Discussed his hemoglobin lecture, went through some sample questions, did some quick prep for his exam tomorrow. He seemed very confident with this material, and I would expect him to do well tomorrow."
"Double displacement/precipitation reactions and net ionic equations were both covered today. The student already has a strong foundation in chemistry and just needed someone to help him build confidence in his answers. We spent the session thinking intuitively about what occurred in each reaction, and then we looked at some simple unknown substance questions."
