Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we reviewed Lewis structures and went over electron and molecular geometry. The student struggled a little to understand the molecular and electron geometry, but picked it up quickly. We worked on several problems from a worksheet as well as his notebook concerning Lewis structures, electron and molecular geometry, and polarity. The student was breezing through the last few problems, so he seems to have a good grasp on these topics."
"Today we went over electronic configuration and atomic structure. The student then worked on problems related to plank's constant. Lastly, we covered Chapter 7 and Chapter 8."
"Today the student and I went over ionic and covalent bonds. We also went into Lewis dot structures of covalent molecules, polarity, and molecular shapes. Lastly, I had her work through a practice exam, as her actual exam is in a few days."
"In today's session, we reviewed big topics and test taking skills for the student's exam. The biggest thing we focused on was test taking strategies for the questions and how to best approach problems during the exam. We also looked at a few concepts, including solubility and nuclear chemistry, because she did not remember learning them in class. The main thing for her is that she really go into this exam super confident in her ability to answer and work through problems."
"Nomenclature for ionic and covalent compounds was the focus for today. We also briefly touched on polyatomic ions. For homework, the student will complete the acid naming tutorial and view an introductory video on chemical equations. I will be following up today's session via email with a list of polyatomic ions she does not have to memorize."
"On last Thursday, the student and I began our rather extensive review of concepts relating to acid and base chemistry. This section is arguably the hardest in introductory chemistry, so I believe our next few meetings will focus on it as well. She struggled initially with the way in which mathematical concepts like logarithms are integrated, but I believe she will improve her grasp over the next week or so. For extra practice, I recommended memorizing the difference between strong and weak acids, as well as looking into ICE charts."
