How can a GRE tutor help you?

Contact Varsity Tutors for help finding GRE tutors in Everett. Do you feel like you are going to earn a low score on your GRE just because you don't know how to study for it? Or are you fairly confident you will score well in a few sections, but think those sections that cover subjects you have always struggled in, like math or writing, will pull your score way down? Your GRE tutor will form a personalized study plan tailored to your potential strengths and weaknesses on the GRE and then help you quickly get your knowledge of all subjects and concepts the exam covers to where it needs to be to score well on the big day!

A skilled GRE tutor in Everett, WA, will know all of the ins and outs of the current GRE. However, not only might your tutor know all about the current test sections and the specific concepts they cover, but they will have teaching skills needed to try to help you learn how to answer every type of question that appears on the GRE correctly. For example, if you fear you will score low on the quantitative reasoning section of the exam, because math is your weakest area and you, of course, can't go back and re-take all of the math courses you didn't understand, your tutor can quickly teach you the math skills you need to understand the GRE: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. While this may still sound like a lot to cover, not every concept in each math subject will be useful on the test, so your tutor will target just the concepts you need to know to score well on the exam!

Session Summaries by GRE Tutors

Everett, WA GRE tutoring
The student and I met via video chat in order to evaluate and proofread her essay for college application. We discussed the organization of the essay and made corrections for subject/verb agreement and generalization. We included several specific examples to illustrate key points, and modified the conclusion to illustrate how she is personally applying the topic of the essay in the context of her own college and career plans. Finally, we proofread for grammar, style, and spelling errors.

This was our last session before the ACT test this Saturday.  We spent our time primarily on geometry practice ACT problems. This definitely seems to be the student's weakest topic. If we do meet again in the future, we will try and focus on beefing up the geometry skills.  We finished with another practice ACT, of which we worked on 10 problems. I left the student with a copy of that test and the answers so that she could continue to practice on her own.

This week the student and I delved into the math portion of the exam. First we read through the chapters generally introducing the math section, and then we moved through the algebra/functions section. She worked her way through a number of practice problems, including a full math portion. She proved to be strong at the equations involving word problems, which we focused on translating into basic equations, and solving algebra questions where the available answer choices often were plugged into the given formulas to determine the correct values. At the very end, we went over a couple of sentence completion questions, just for review, all of which she answered correctly.

We looked at troublesome math problems, did drills of the reading and science passages, and reviewed grammar on the English section. We also talked a good bit about strategies for staying calm during the test and not letting the timer interfere with her thought processes. After doing several timed sections, the student said it was getting a bit easier to ignore the timer. It seems clear that the student has the skills to do well on the test. She is especially competent on the Science section, and struggles most with the English.

The student had a worksheet from class rather than book work to review, and once I reminded him about binomial coefficients and logarithmic properties, he did well on his own. He also remember trigonometric graphing transformations. He worked diligently and demonstrated thorough understanding.
