I definitely saw some improvement in the student today. I think she is starting to work the muscle memory much better now. I am confident that we will see daily improvements and that she will pass the second grade. She is an extremely hard worker and incredibly sweet. Today I brought in 3 paragraph long stories that had 2-4 major points. I had her silently read them and then draw what she read. I am trying to get her used to visualizing what she reads, to help her with comprehension. The first story she got both points on, which last week she was only getting one. We then decided to pick up a book that was a bit beyond her reading level. There weren't any pictures, so we decided we would make our own after each chapter. We made it through the first chapter. All in all, she did amazing. And she's having fun!

The student did his sight word flashcards for homework as well as his reading journal assignment. He then completed another spelling assessment. He scored much higher on this assessment than on previous occasions. He has become proficient at reading and writing the following content: initial and final consonants, short vowels, digraphs, blends, most long vowel patterns and even some other/unique vowel patterns such as r-influenced vowels. He then completed a sight word assessment and read aloud with 95% accuracy. We then played a game where student was given a bunch of paper "broken eggs" with 2 letters on each side. I read a word aloud and he had to find the two parts of the egg that would create that word. The words included digraphs, blends, long and short vowel patterns, and unique vowel patterns as well. He completed with accuracy. For homework, he was asked to write a story in his journal using three of the words from the "egg hunt" game.

The student seems really motivated to stay on top of her remaining papers. She already sent an outline to one of her professors. She would like to wait until she receives feedback on the outline before proceeding any further with set deadlines. She said that her other classes have short papers that she can complete within a day. One of her term papers requires ten sources, so I shared with her information about software that has improved my organization tremendously. Overall, she seems to be organized and on track to completing her work.
