Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Because the student has a major math project due tomorrow we met today so that she could ask me questions about the aspects of the project which she had questions on. The project itself concerns presenting the results of a scatterplot, so we talked through not only the process for establishing a statistical model but also the principles and goals behind each stage of her project."
"We started the sessions with a released Assessment Exam test to get an idea of the student's needs. He has some gaps in his learning and we are working on closing these. He is a quick learner."
"Today I found out the student received his report card. He received around a 6 out of 7. We believe this would translate to about a B or a grade of 80-85 out of 100. He, his mother, and I all agree that he could have done much better, especially because he does not find any of the material difficult. I spent some time talking to him alone, and I believe he is unchallenged. If school is not challenging enough, I will provide more difficult problems so that he may at least push himself. Today we went over his homework assignment which was to solve for x using perfect squares. He found it fairly easy."
"The students and I reviewed complicated fractions, especially with subtraction and addition. She did a good job with this concept and we will now move on to multiplication and division of fractions. I did leave a few home work problems for both students."
"The student and I worked on finding the GCF of polynomials and also on factoring cubed variables. He had difficulty at first but was doing much better at the end of our session. I will be bringing practice problems of these concepts to our next session."
"We went over some worksheets that consisted of adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers using a number line. We also went over word problems that related to number lines."
