Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Well, today the student and I finished our sessions. I'm sad! She was a great student and a pleasure to work with.
Today we went over her final practice exam. She scored a 27.5 composite, which I think is pretty dead on. She missed some pretty easy ones on the math and science. Luckily, they were just simple errors, so I hope she can avoid those on Saturday.
Thanks so much for working with us! I had a lot of fun and I think she will be successful this Saturday. I can't wait to hear how she does."

"The student realizes where her struggles are (mostly mathematics), which is what's slowing her progress in physics. I've suggested that she start drawing pictures to help her visualize the problems, so we'll see if that helps."
"Finished up looking at specific geo topics. We spent the beginning of the session looking at some polygon properties/formulas, then properties of quadrilaterals, and finally properties of circles. The student was familiar with all these concepts, but was a good refresher. I encouraged her to study a list of theorems I printed for her and possibly put a sketch of the idea next to it to help with remembering the concept. Again spent the remainder of our time working on practice ACT. We worked from a book this time that breaks down the questions by topics. So we practiced some preaglebra, algebra, and coordinate geometry. Overall the student did a nice job on this practice."
"The student did wonderfully on the trigonometry homework, both on the lesson focusing over applying tangents and on the lesson over applying sines and cosines. We also looked over a packet of trigbased problems he had done in class but was not yet graded. On the packet, he further demonstrated both his deft understanding of the trigonometric functions and his vast improvement at pulling data from word problems. However, he missed a few problems due to misunderstanding the objective. We took a closer examination of those to show him how to determine what the goal of each problem is. He then completed his homework for tomorrow. In the process, he showed that he had already internalized my tips. We both felt more confident over his ability to interpret word problems by the end of the session."
"The student and I worked on his packet covering Relative and Demonstrative Pronouns. The student has been paying closer attention in class I can tell by the questions he asks regarding specific aspects of grammar."
"Review of quadrilaterals; polygon theorems, solving for angles, solving algebraic equations within polygons > progress in understanding what parts of certain equations/ theorems mean in relation to polygon angles."
"For this session, I made a schedule for the student for his SSAT Math Progress till the test day (Nov. 10) while he worked on a chapter. As he worked, he was able to ask me questions as well. After the schedule was made, I was able to go through the geometry chapter and quiz him on key concepts as well. I will see him this coming Wednesday to answer any questions as well as review concepts."
"We finished work on complementary/subjective infinitives and began work on indirect statements work went less quickly than previous session as indirect statements is a considerably more challenging concept and review had to be conducted regarding the formation of perfect and future infinitive forms. We also constructed short Latin sentences with varying tenses of indirect statement as practice."
"During the session today with the student, we reviewed algebra concepts that we have been working on over the past month, specifically determining whether equations were perpendicular or parallel, determining the specific transformations that function undergo based on their slopes and intercept, and how to find the solutions to equations based on the process of substitution. The student was also introduced to the concept of absolute value in this session and explored the new concept by practicing several questions. She is showing definite improvement at understanding and recalling the concepts."
"The student has been working on calculating angles in parallel and perpendicular lines as well as angles of different shapes. She completed her homework in her workbook. She also has a cumulative quiz coming up. We went over some of these topics but we will meet again to have a more indepth review."
"The student and I continued with Trig. We reviewed a lot of topics today, ranging from angle formulas to trig identities. He does well with the identities but struggles with solving equations, so we did a lot of those and I stressed the importance of treating sin and cos like an x when solving."
"Chemistry: Empirical vs Molecular Formula. Discussed general concepts and practice problems for upcoming quiz.
Math: Ratios and Properties. Discussed a few ratio rules of triangles. Briefly looked over homework and will followup on this next time."
