Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I had a very productive session today that I believe will set the model for all our future sessions. We began by discussing his homework problems, and talking about his strategy for critical reading. We then did about 20 minutes of drafting and discussing a potential SAT essay topic. He came up with an outline and we talked about ways to improve the specificity of his thesis, the concreteness of his examples, and the grander philosophical implications of his conclusion. We will continue to do these brief essay prep sessions at the beginning of every session. He then finished correcting his math sections from the practice test and advanced to another problem set in the book. I believe repetition and problem familiarity are working great! We also discussed the importance of taking more practice tests before January, outside of our sessions, and he hopes to take at least two more full timed practice tests. Overall, he is very smart, motivated, and a fast learner, making my job as a tutor easy and enjoyable. I have high hopes for his January test scores."
"The student and I went over his latest test today. His Critical Reading scores have improved greatly. He wrote a great essay this week, using three body paragraphs. I encouraged him to stick to this format to write a well-rounded essay. I gave him an additional essay prompt and we discussed ways he could clean up his grammar to truly perfect his essay. His thesis sentences have improved, as has his overall structure. We are going to focus on grammar as he writes to make sure his sentences are as clear and structured as they can be. Finally, we went over two Critical Reading sections, solving the problems together and implementing tactics when he does such sections by himself. He solved all the problems correctly and he was able to use various techniques to arrive at the correct answer each time."
"During today's session, we covered both science and math topics from her college entrance exam prep book. We also used an online resource that she had to supplement our discussion."
