Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started our lesson with a review of the subjunctive and its use with verbs and expressions of doubt. This is the next topic that is coming up for him. While doing this, I realized that the student was having difficulty with previously learned verb tenses and we began to review verb tense. He will definitely need to know this material for his final. He continues to be attentive during the lessons and really wants to learn the material so that he can maintain his standing on the Honor Roll. The student is a hard worker and I am proud of the work that he has been doing."
"The student and I worked on translating a dialogue from English to French that she had to do related to the book they are reading."
"The student and I reviewed the formation of the passe compose, and he completed a small assessment I made to check for understanding. We then identified when to use the passe compose with etre versus when to use with avoir and the difference between the two. I gave him a PowerPoint and practice exercises to review for the next time."
"During this session, we covered expressions with avoir, the futur proche, etre, and ir verbs. We also spent time reading a passage with new vocabulary and answering questions to help with reading comprehension. We also read a short story. The student continues to struggle with verb conjugation. He has a good attitude. I did include some strategies and study skills."
"The student did really well today. I particularly appreciate how well he did, considering what a crazy, hectic week he's been having. He really cranked out the work today. First, he translated an authentic piece of a French literature about a 17-year-old Resistance fighter who wrote this letter just before his execution. Then he did a great job translating the set of sentences. Then we started on our translation together the famous story by Alphonse Daudet, about the last French class a teacher in Alsace gives when Alsace was returned to the Germans. I left him with the homework of writing two paragraphs of strong, good French in response to the reading, which I asked him to send to me so I can review it for grammar and content. Terrific work today! Thanks so much for your good, hard work today."
"We worked on correcting an assignment the student wrote for class, including correcting verb tense to make the entire composition take place in past tense. We also worked on beginning a larger project, which is an in-class presentation on the environmental challenges of Luxembourg."
