Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we worked on the student's reading comprehension. We did this by working mainly on character trait identifications and paragraph main idea identification. During our next appointment, we will work on transferring the main idea of a paragraph into reading comprehension questions. This will be built into itself, and we will work on her ability to do this for multiple paragraph texts. I left her two pages of paragraphs to identify the main idea of each."
"Reviewed how to calculate probability. Solved problems calculating probability. Reviewed mean, median, mode, range, and mean absolute deviation (MAD). Solved problems to identify the mean, median, mode, range, and mean absolute deviation (MAD). The student also wrote out the goals, givens and conjecture for each of the problems."
"We started with one section covering circles. The student had to find the center and radius of a circle from its equation first. Some were in center-radius form and others needed to be converted using completing the square. There were also some reverse problems that gave the center and radius and wanted the equation. We had some extra time to start the next section, which covered ellipses. The student was able to handle even the hardest examples that we went over."
"We found a practice midterm for her in her online classwork. This will allow her to practice problems and get feedback when I am not around."
"We spent the entire session going over systems of equations so she can take another exam this week. I am very pleased with her progress on the substitution method and the elimination method, as well as graphing! This is her best math subject so far and I feel the material is really clicking."
"The student and I spent the session covering some new material that included the area of a circle and the identifying of three-dimensional objects, as well as calculating their surface. These lessons continue to build on themselves and she is doing well to keep up with them."
