"Today we focused on multiplication. We completed multiplying 5 and 6 digit numbers by 1 and 2 digit numbers. Student had a challenge when multiplying by 8 and 9, although he was really tired. We can focus on more math facts moving forward. This helps the student learn math facts until they are automatic. This will help as he progresses in math with more steps. I found that the student likes multi-step word math problems, so we will be doing at least one each visit."
"Today we focused on multiplying and dividing numbers by using Legos as placeholders to count the terms correctly. We completed his homework and paid attention about how we count numbers in our heads. After we finished the homework, we built a blue star for him to hold onto out of ABS plastic via 3D Printing Pen. He did a couple of parts, and so did I. As the instructor, I paid primary attention to the student's mental math responses to verbal prompts with and without the use of toys. He was receptive to using toys, and the general atmosphere allowed him to enjoy himself and succeed. Great job!"
"Today we focused on reviewing for her chapter 1 math test and working on comprehension skills. The student knew the math concepts very well, but we worked longer on the associative property, compatible numbers, and what to do if you cannot subtract numbers (borrow). She is a great reader but we are working on comprehension strategies. I taught her to read the questions first, underline important words and sentences, and to read all the options carefully. She expressed that she does not like the written response part so we worked on answering the questions verbally. I want to work more on teaching her to support her answers using the text."
"Today we got a lot accomplished. Both students completed their history, Spanish, and math assignments. They took a practice spelling test. Both students did okay. They still need to write their weekly journal assignment. They will do so tonight, and I will review it in our next session."
"Today we had lots of fun reading the student's Jewel Fairies book. She was very animated and really got into the story. I made up comprehension questions, and we talked about and practiced finding evidence in the text to correctly answer. We had a great session, and I was really happy when she asked me if I could stay longer! I'm so happy that she enjoyed the session, especially on a Friday!"
"Today we prepared for the student' s upcoming test in language arts & social studies. He had a review guide which was one page for each class. We worked on the parts of a story and defined each part. Then I had him tell me what each part meant by doing a matching activity. Finally, he told me what each part was in the book he is reading entitled "Wonder". We reviewed map terminology and the regions of the U.S. for his social studies test. He was to review all terminology on his study guides that evening."
