Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we focused primarily on strategies for breaking down data interpretation problems into more tractable parts. We talked about pulling out the relevant information, expressing it in terms of mathematical equations or inequalities, figuring out when to use substitution and systems of equation, simplifying equations, cancelling units, and plugging in numbers. Specifically, most of today's problems involved working with percentages and scientific notation. I suggested that the student can look specifically at what the problem is asking him to find, and that will help him figure out whether to try and get those equations down to concrete numbers, or whether to write them in terms of a single variable. He is doing a great job of recognizing the places where he's having trouble, and really wants to practice using tools and formulas to get comfortable navigating those areas."
"The student and I covered basic topics from a "cheat sheet" (quick sheet) that I provided the student. This will help the him get a foundation before jumping into problems. The quick sheet included concepts and practice examples to go along with the topics."
"We discussed fractions properties, ratios, percents and strategies. We will add an extra 20 minutes to our Thursday session."
