Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met to work on her homework for Section 5.2 and to go through the worksheet provided by her teacher on integrating shapes. The homework was very long but we were able to get through most of it."
"We reviewed the students' answers for the reading sections. They each completed two of the three sections assigned for homework. We then introduced the math section and did some practice problems. They are doing the three math sections of test 1 for homework."
"Met student for the first time. Spent entire hour and half working on his homework, which was graphing trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan, sec, csc, cot) and finding period, amplitude, and horizontal and vertical shifts. Student is very bright and picks up the information rather quickly."
"We spent the session going over math and long-passage reading sections. We also ended with a practice essay."
"We worked on comprehension and math. Student 1 did a great job with comprehension, but had trouble with subtractions and fractions. Student 2 was great today. He had no mistakes in math and had a great grasp for the readings we read."
"The student and I went over her most recent practice test (both the verbal and math sections) and discussed strategies."
"We continued going over the physical sciences section that we had started and then continued on to the verbal reasoning. We discussed possible strategies for attacking this section (i.e. reading the question and answer choices before the passage, and thinking about what kind of answers the test-writer would find appropriate and inappropriate, in general). The student's homework for Thursday is to complete an un-timed open-book practice test for Thursday so we can pinpoint which areas to focus on."
"The student and I worked on some homework and make up tests for her Geometry class. Today we covered Deductive and Inductive reasoning. It was my first session with her since she went on break for the summer. We jumped right in with the same rapport we had last year."
"Today the student and I went over the essay he completed over the course of this week. We had worked together on the first two paragraphs and he finished up the rest of the essay. He did very well on this section, but could definitely use further practice for both the content of his writing and the timing aspect. We did a sample of 15 questions from the English that had proportional time and went over any incorrect answers together. He is doing better with the grammar questions and now we want to focus on the questions in the English section that have to do with sentence deletion/content. We also did a sample of 5 math questions, for the sake of time, and went over any questions that he had."
"The student and I discussed his timing issue for the ACT Writing Section. We road-mapped 3 ACT writing prompts, and he now feel more confident of his writing abilities for the ACT. In the remaining 45 minutes, we went over a ACT English Section."
"The student and I reviewed slope and basic geometric concepts. We also used slope intercept form to manipulate equations to solve for slope, y-intercept, and x and y coordinates. We reviewed her algebraic concepts and went through a practice section together. I asked that she practice some of the geometry sections before our next meeting. Next time we will take a timed exam together."
"On Tuesday, the student and I worked through a comprehensive state assessment study guide that focused mainly on test taking skills an tactics. The student completed reading comprehension questions and SAT style with perfect accuracy. I would really like him to focus taking his time to read each of the questions thoroughly but quickly. He has a brilliant mind for math and I am very pleased with his improvement overall in test taking and verbal skills."
