Tutoring review by Amanda in Erie, CO
We worked through several area/ perimeter questions in the student's textbook. We worked with equations for squares, rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, and kites. He did very well working through each step and making sure we didn't forget any steps or to carry down pieces of the equation. Next session, on Sunday, we will continue to work through these geometry problems and/or to practice his Spanish vocabulary for his current weather unit. He has a great attitude and works hard. He was a pleasure to work with!

The student and I worked on practice AP free response problems. We reviewed differential equations - finding the second derivative (concavity and inflection points of the original graph B(t)) and separation of variables to find B(t). We also worked on physics problems with position x(t), velocity v(t), and acceleration a(t). We discussed integrals to find displacement vs distance traveled. Lastly, we discussed speed (always positive) vs. velocity (shows direction) and that "speeding up" means that v(t) and a(t) have the same sign and "slowing down" means v(t) and a(t) have different signs.

The student and I continued to review for his final. Today we covered some material on circles. We worked on examples dealing with finding the lengths of chords, tangent, and secant lines, finding arc measures and finding inscribed angle measures as well as angles inside or outside circles. He had missed some of these theorems in class, so we reviewed them together and gave him practice problems.

The student and I reviewed work for a quiz he has today. We went over greatest common factors, least common multiples, prime factorization and the difference between prime and composite numbers. He did great. His math skills are on grade level. The things he needs to focus on are checking his work, not rushing through problems without showing the work and making simple errors, and memorizing his times tables. These are things we will continue to work on.
