Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I explained the quadratic equation transformation and showed him how each change works. We also worked on FOIL and intercepts. I explained each concept and solved one example to show him how he has to do them. Then I asked him to solve some problem for me to make sure he understood them. Then we went through biology. I explained diffusion, osmosis, facilitated diffusion, active transport, endocytosis and exocytosis. He understood them and he is doing well."
"We went through the student's homework on polynomials. He had some trouble with the vocabulary at first, but once we broke them down to root words, he did very well. He did a great job remembering to distribute negative signs, even without prompting."
"We continued looking at graphing quadratic functions. The student told me that she was able to complete the other homework from before on her own. I reviewed her notes from class with her, making sure to review how it related to what she learned before and how we built upon it. We worked on a selection of her homework problems covering axis of symmetry, finding the vertex, graphing, and maximum and minimum. She seemed to understand how to do the problems once I explained them. We will keep reviewing fraction rules in our next session."
"This evening, I helped the student work through her practice problems using the slope intercept formula and slope point formula. This included using slope and points to write the equations and graph. She did well and is making progress working with the slope formulas."
"The student has a test on Tuesday covering linear solutions (graphing, substitutions, combinations, and inequalities). His homework was review questions on these topics, so we worked on the problems together and talked about the solutions. He was making small mistakes on the first few problems of each section, but by the end of the problem set, he was much more confident and getting the right answers on the first try. He continues to be very good at application problems."
"The student's assignment today combined the work he has been doing in both his math and science classes. He had to plot data that he had collected, then create a line of best fit based off of his data. Aside from a few simple mistakes, he did very well. He has been working with these formulas for quite a while and it shows."
