How can a tutor assist you in conquering GRE?

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is used by many colleges and universities as part of the graduate admissions process. The GRE consists of four sections and takes approximately three and a half hours to complete. The four sections include verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and experimental or research.

The verbal reasoning section is separated into two sections. The first section covers text completion, sentence equivalence, and critical reading. The second section includes vocabulary usage, critical reasoning, and reading comprehension. The quantitative section is also divided into two sections. The first section focuses on quantitative comparisons, problem solving, and data interpretation. The second section contains reasoning and high school level math.

I introduced her to the gamified productivity app I really like that I share with my students who are preparing for standardized exams. She also completed a math practice test on her own. I'm sure she will have plenty new practice problems completed for us to review at our next session!

The student and I began by going over four practice essays she wrote. I gave her some comments on her work and an estimate of what score she would receive on each essay. Her grammar and style are fine for the most part. I suggested some ways to reorganize her essays and also provide some deeper insight into the points she addressed. For the last half of the session, we reviewed a quantitative reasoning section she completed. She struggled a bit with the start of the test, including quantitative reasoning questions. I illustrated the solutions for the problems she missed, while also going over some general strategy for the section.

The student and I worked through some math questions together. It is definitely her weaker area but she is slowly piecing things together. She continues to improve in the verbal section! She is getting more than 80% of all practice questions correct.

Topics covered in this session included multiples, factors, and order of operations. We also practiced some of her multiplication tables to get the student refreshed with them. During the session, several of the student's homework pages were completed and she seemed to pick it up quickly. Next time, I would recommend that we work on repetition to memorize her multiplication times tables to help her with homework.

We went over half of the homework for geometry. I was surprised his teacher forgot to give the student the equation for SA and V of a cone, so I gave those equation to him to aid him on his homework. We went over a few examples on how to approach the geometry problems and what exactly he should be looking for. For chemistry, he seemed very confident. He mentioned that they were covering conversions from SI to metric. He said his teacher provided the conversions, but he will need to memorize a few basic metric conversions. He said he got all of the questions right on his last quiz and he thought his lab was very easy. It seems he is doing a fantastic job with chemistry and now needs to focus on geometry a bit more.
