Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued with factoring and polynomials. The focus was creating polynomials from technical scenarios and using factoring to solve for specific aspects of the situation. Since an understanding of the context was necessary to succeed, I showed the student how polynomials could be used through visual displays and what it would mean to factor and solve for roots. Once I felt he was ready, I had him practice with a couple of examples. We spent the rest of the session completing a math project involving polynomials and dimensions of 3D objects."
"We covered exponential functions (intercepts, asymptotes, domain & range), representing exponential functions given 2 points, and word problems for continuous and discrete exponential functions. "
"We covered exponential graphs and asymptotes, how to find x and y intercepts on a graph, what increasing and decreasing intervals mean, and how to find a limit. I did not leave him with extra practice, and there were no grades to note progress."
"We covered finding zeros in polynomial equations and what the corresponding graphs looked like. She seemed to understand the concepts right away and was just looking for me to cover material from a class day she had missed."
"We covered graphing functions, epsilon, and delta rule for verifying a limit exists. We are developing a balance between calculator and hand calculations. The class seems to be in the review phase showing the long way to perform limits and integrations."
"We covered graphing sin and cosine. We found the amplitude, period, and shift. The student struggled with understanding where to begin because he was absent when his teacher taught the beginning of the lesson. After going back over it from the beginning he began to understand. He had positive and was willing to try and understand. I could see he was confused. The session was a success."
