Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"At yesterday's session, the student and I went over the last two acts of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. While he did have a good grasp on the plot, generally, there were a few details he had missed. We reviewed the relevant passages together, and I asked him to paraphrase what had been said. Overall, he did very well working through Shakespeare's poetic verse."
"In this session, the student wrapped up her U.S. History Part A lessons and continued working on her British Literature modules. She does well with modern history, as she is familiar with current American and world politics. We continued working on Macbeth and applying concepts such as theme, purpose, exposition, etc. to Shakespearean plays."
"The student has a test on Victorian poetry tomorrow, so we spent the session reviewing for the test. His teacher had given him sample questions for twelve different poems ("In Memoriam AHH," "Crossing the Bar," "Tears, Idle Tears," "Ulysses," "My Last Duchess," "Porphyria's Lover," "Dover Beach," "Darkling Thrush," "The Man He Killed," "Are You Digging on My Grave," "To An Athlete Dying Young," and "When I Was One and Twenty"), and we went through all the sample questions together. I also asked him some additional questions about theme, style, and imagery in the poems, and he seems to have a very strong grasp of the content. I expect he'll do well on the exam."
