Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was our final session. We spent the evening reviewing past assignments and completing some written exercises from his textbook. We focused specifically on correct grammar with verb tenses. Prior to the session, I typed up some notes we created together from previous meetings and created some verb conjugation charts which focused on the tenses from the course. Since we had worked on a very similar chart before, he was already familiar with my chart. We worked together to fill in the chart according to the rules for conjugation. Working through the chart gave him the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification he needed for to better understand the material. After the session, I emailed him the document to use as a study guide for the final exam."
"Took his second test today dealing with all the verb tenses that we've learned thus far as well as expanding his vocabulary. A lot of progress has been made since the first session, especially in comprehending the language!"
"The student's test is next week. She is good at getting context clues. She has a packet to help her prepare for her test and we went over the more difficult parts. We went over dialogue, reading question and answer, as well as fill-in-the-blank exercises to prepare her for her test. Lastly, the most difficult part of the packet was about indirect objects, which I helped her with as well as explained the order of them in phrases in Spanish. She also said that she was confident that she got a 98 or 100 in her oral quiz which she prepared a lot for. If she continues to prepare well, she should do well on her test next week. This is our last session for the school year and it's been great working with her."
"We focused on the use of the preterit and the imperfect, as well as his writing and reading skills. He will read an article from a newspaper in Spanish and write up 2 paragraphs about the article with his ideas/thoughts etc. Then we will continue working on the preterit and imperfect next week. He did an excellent job and is very eager to learn."
"Today the student and I studied for his upcoming final. This was also the last session until further notice. We focused on vocab, preterite conjugation, and indirect and direct object pronouns. Overall, I thought the student did well, and he left the session feeling comfortable about the material on the test. I learned that his teacher recommended he take summer school after the semester's end. Although there is still a chance he could get a passing grade with a high score on the final, I think summer school is probably for the best to relearn many of the concepts he missed this semester. I think the student will be successful in his future study of Spanish, and if the need ever arises, I hope to continue working with him."
"Today we went over some more articles to do with higher education and the different systems around the world, particularly with France. The student is busy preparing for his speech at the end of the month and is showing no signs of fear or lack of confidence in his speaking. We will continue to go over the difficult vocabulary that he may be using."
