Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started this session with a brief warm-up activity to review some differentiation to keep those skills sharp. We then went on to learn logarithmic differentiation, with which the student did exceedingly well. For the last part of the session, we covered inverse trig functions. Between now and our next session, I asked him to finish making flashcards, and to memorize the unit circle."
"We had a session today to talk about the student's upcoming test. It will cover simple integration to find areas between curves, and separable differential equations. I had him do problems mainly involving u-substitutions."
"The student came back from spring break with a lengthy refresher assignment over derivatives. He remembered how to use the power rule and all of the exponent properties that were needed tonight, and no longer struggled with the algebraic simplification of both the problems and their answers. We also looked at the quotient rule for differentiation for the first time, and he seemed to pick up on it rather quickly."
"We worked with differential equations - specifically exponential growth and decay models. The student currently has about 280/300 points in the class. He has done very well since the introductory evaluation (33/50). He has a test next week. I have instructed him to review all the rules/theorems from the previous two sections."
"Today, the student and I went over word problems that required calculus to solve. He has mastered differentiation."
"We covered optimization today. We made step by step strategies on how to solve optimization problems and I had the student complete two full problems. She is always positive and willing to learn during our session. I left the student with four optimization problems to complete for next time using the strategies we reviewed today. Overall it was a good session."
