Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student took a quiz for her English class and went through analyzing passages. She got 90% on the quiz. Then we discussed "The Cask of Amontillado" for her upcoming English project. We focused on remembering plot details and using context clues to figure out vocabulary words in the story. We also focused on sentences with difficult syntax."
"The student did very well in his session on Friday. We spent our time editing an essay that he had due for Monday. His teacher had already flagged some areas to be reworked, so we discussed his comments and I provided additional edits of my own. We were able to spend a lot of time discussing larger structural changes to the essay as well as grammar and syntax which I think was very helpful. His writing and analytical skills continue to improve and I am pleased with his progress. I look forward to working with him again next week."
"The student and I worked on a written assignment that she submitted online. We also read Act V in Romeo and Juliet together. She rocked tonight! Great reading comprehension; great thought process behind the written assignment."
"Today we reviewed asking and answering questions. The student is improving. We spent a nice amount of time on using contractions. The student needs to practice formulating one word vs. two when using or reading contractions. We also did a short reading comprehension activity using this, those, that, and these. The student is to complete exercises 2.1 and 2.4 as well as review previous homework conversations."
"Today we reviewed clothing, read "Thomas the Tank Engine," read "My Truck is Stuck," and reviewed the letters and sounds. We also practiced some short word phonics and played cars."
"Today we reviewed easily confused letters, focusing on b/p and y/w. We also practiced writing all of the letters that we have covered so far. We will finish consonants and move into vowels, then work on blending CVC (consonant/vowel/consonant) words, like mat, bat, and hat."
