Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on her project for her class, and we went over several of the sections together. She also completed the majority of problems from her homework that focused on finding asymptotes and intercepts. We went back and reviewed a few sections that she was not completely clear on."
"This session focused mainly on review for an upcoming test. We covered application problems that dealt with distance/rate/time, mixture problems, work problems, and geometric problems. We also went over solving equations and inequalities with absolute values. The student really seemed to grasp everything we went over, though I recommended doing the problems that weren't assigned to ensure that she could be confident in her ability."
"This session focused on reviewing trigonometry. The student indicated that she had switched from Pre-AP Pre-Calculus to a standard Pre-Calculus course, due to her performance on her last exam. Some of the discussion was focused around ensuring that proper study habits were being used. Strategies include studying for no more than 1.5 hrs and taking a break of at least 15 minutes to help stay focused and reduce potential issues with retention of information. Overall, the student needs to be sure to commit at least an hour a day of study in addition to assigned homework to develop the needed proficiency in the material."
"This session was focused on the student's Chapter 2 Section 2.4 - Real Zeros of Polynomial Functions problems 19 through 59 every other odd and standardized test problems 63-68. We began with reviewing long division of whole numbers and progressed to polynomial long division. The sections required knowledge base in several theorems: factor theorem, remainder theorem, and rational zero theorem. We finished the section with several polynomial long division problems and concluded at the standardized test problems that she is comfortable with completing. Overall, she is still progressing and it makes me happy to see that she is becoming more confident in her mathematical skill set."
"This session went great. The student seemed really nice, and it was our first time meeting. We went over how to graphically and algebraically solve functions and quadratics. We went over the box and diamond methods of factoring, and covered how to graphically determine whether a function was even, odd, or neither. We talked about the vertical line test and talked about domains and ranges. The session went great and I hope to continue working with her in the future."
"This session's primary focus was pre-calculus - specifically, dividing polynomials. The majority of the session was in figuring out one particularly difficult problem. He managed to solve the problem in the end, and, by working it through, gained an understanding of the process of polynomial division. He could use more practice in this area, and I plan on developing a worksheet. Additionally, we prepared for an upcoming quiz in chemistry. He had a solid understanding of the topic beforehand - finding average atomic weights from isotopes and their prevalences. Through repetition, he also has a solid memory of the names of scientists in the history of chemistry and their contributions. I expect he will do well on the quiz tomorrow."
