Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed and practiced basic 4-function calculation (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing) We reviewed division and scientific notation. I also introduced mixed number fractions adding/subtracting."
"We reviewed Pre-Algebra skills. The student took a placement test, and I noticed a struggle with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. I allowed her to work out about 15 problems then we reviewed the ones she got wrong. If there was a problem she did not know how to do at all, I reminded her of some rules and allowed her to finish completing the problem. I left her with the test she took for her to review problems she missed. She does know most of the basic skills in pre-algebra, so she will get a test next session reviewing skills she missed this week, and then we will move on to algebra 1."
"We reviewed solving for one variable, solving for angles, converting, had a quick Pythagorean theorem lesson, worked on word problems solving for one variable, and talked about the differences between tenths and thousandths. The student was able to grasp all of the concepts. The student always has a positive attitude toward his academics. I left him with some problems he can try out of the book. The student grasped the Pythagorean theorem fairly quick, and I will quiz him next session."
"We reviewed special polynomials (difference of two squares), factoring polynomials and FOIL. She struggled with FOIL and integer rules. She was positive! Yes, she was able to predict the correct answers and eliminate the wrong answers by using integer rules. She already has all the materials she needs. At the end, she only needed small reminders while doing FOIL."
"We reviewed the fundamentals in Chapters P and 1 before moving on to Chapter 2. We discussed Sections 2.1-2.8. The student will do practice problems from those sections this week as review, and we'll go over any questions during the next section. During the next section, we'll also finish Chapter 2 and begin Chapter 3."
"We reviewed the multiplication facts from 1 to 10 using playing cards with the face cards are removed. We focused on utilizing addition and touch math to calculate multiplication problems that are not memorized just yet. We then worked on discovery of vocabulary with three or more letters using letter cards. We completed the session by practicing carrying as they totalled their individual scores from the activity."
