Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I worked on multi-step geometry problems using coordinate planes and triangles. We practiced sample test questions, and used different skills to solve more complex questions."
"In this lesson we worked on both reading and spelling. We started by reviewing the student's homework. I helped her figure out how to solve her math problems and helped her check her work (addition problems and a word problem), and then we reviewed her spelling homework. For spelling, she had to figure out the missing letters needed to spell her spelling words, and to write two complete sentences about the pictures provided. She did well on her homework. Next, we practiced her spelling words. I first had her read each word from the flashcards, then I took the cards back and read the words to her one by one, and she wrote each word on a dry erase board. She spelled all but one word correctly on her first try. The word she spelled wrong was "chair" (she spelled it as "chari"), but after I prompted her to look at the word again, she quickly saw her mistake and corrected it. We ended the lesson practicing addition flash cards, adding two digit and one digit numbers up to 12. I told her to solve these problems by counting up/adding on (rather than by drawing a picture or tally marks), and she practiced these problems for about the last 10-15 minutes of the session. Overall, she did well with both her math and spelling today."
"In this session, I continued to work with both Student 1 and Student 2. Student 1 and I began our time together by working on her math homework. Her class has now moved past their multiplication unit and into "Shapes and Area." We reviewed a worksheet that asked her to identify the "shaded area" on a number of different grids; she completed this with ease. Student 2 and I reviewed his homework together, as well. His worksheet required him to find a series of equivalent fractions (by multiplying or dividing both the numerator and denominator by the same number). He was very quick with this worksheet and seems to be improving every time we worked. We completed some massive multiplication problems for fun. We will continue with multiplication and fraction worksheets, respectively, next time around."
"We covered concepts, including parallel and perpendicular lines in relation to slope, and the student's current class material. We also discussed ways to improve the student's study skills."
"The student and I discussed his review section, and then we looked ahead. I taught him the next lesson on the Pythagorean theorem. He did very well finding the hypotenuse of a leg."
"We went over several chapters in here Algebra I. We are working towards her quiz on Friday which is extensive. She is an excellent student and just needs a boast to getting her A that she wants."
