Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"It was bittersweet finishing up with the session tonight. She is doing SO great. Today we went over her recent practice test and I think we calmed some of her fears. If she puts her mind to it, we know she can do really well. Hopefully her confidence will carry over on test day."
"We went further into Regression Analysis concepts. Specifically, the OLS assumptions that goes into identifying the regression model being used. We also looked at some code for the software she will be using for her fall semester class."
"The student's Junior Research paper is finally done! She turned it in on Tuesday morning. So we spent the entire session working on her Physics review packet, and she's about halfway through with it. We'll continue working on that when we meet next Monday."
"Today the student and I worked on confidence intervals for her quiz tomorrow. We worked through chapter 8.1 and did some sample problems in the section review. Good luck!"
"Today we worked on two papers that she has due this week, a Geography one on the local climate of her home town and one for her Psychology class about the effects of video games on children's development. I think we got her going on the right track for these essays. "
"Today we focused on the second and third chapters in the student's Algebra 2 book. He was so glad that we had gone over the first couple of chapters before class started because his teacher did not give much instruction in class. We went over chapter three, which she will probably cover later this week, and plan on meeting again on Monday to prepare for his first test."
"Reviewed with student for two upcoming quizzes in science and pre-algebra. Made flash cards and review important terminology surrounding the scientific method. Practiced problems dealing with order of operations, properties of equations, and solving algebraic equations."
"The student and I reviewed some concepts and began working through her math textbook and some common mistakes she had been making. We practiced with examples based around problems in the next few chapters she'll be encountering."
"Today the student and I completed practice problems in the science section of the ACT. No other test that she will be taking has a science section so this was her first exposure to it. She did an extraordinary job on the science section getting almost all of them correct. It is her strongest subject. I was very happy at her performance during our session."
"Another energetic and productive session with the student. We did a very in-depth review of the reading passages she'd done for homework, going over every question. Next time she will take more involved notes, but she's already doing great. This took up the bulk of our review and we will only spend time on specific questions in the future. Next we went over her math practice section, using each question she had problems with as an opportunity to fill in the holes of her knowledge. She catches on extremely quickly; Math concepts and strategies from 9th and 10th grade come back to her and she often finishes a review of a problem by guiding me through it. We went over everything from general algebra word problems to advanced geometry (circles, divide/conquer, special right triangle integration) and will begin our next session with a focused review of the trig she needs to know for the exam. She's a tiny bit nervous about it, but I think I've shown her that she has reason to be confident!"
"This session, we spent the entire time translating one passage from the textbook. As we worked through the passage, his translating grew more confident, and it should grow easier with the reuse of words and constructions."
"The student and I reviewed for his Physics test by going through all of the sections he covered. The topics we covered included electric potential energy, electric potential, equipotential lines and surfaces, and capacitors/capacitance. Since he has already worked on a lot of the problems that required calculations, we focused on the concepts/conceptual problems. Progress was pretty good. He seemed to have a good understanding of the material."
