Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered questions related to general chemistry, organic chemistry and biochemistry. The student didn't remember all of the concepts at first but was able to quickly pick them up and apply them. Before next week she will complete her practice test and five to six chapters form her review books."
"For this session we talked more extensively on how to solve MCAT verbal reasoning passages and strategies that can be applied to improve performance on them. We talked about how much time is to be spent on solving the passages and how much time to spend on each question. We then solved a passage from a previous MCAT exam, discussing how to go about reading the passage and what to focus on. We also discussed how to approach each question, how much time to spend on it, and to best use information in the passage to answer the questions."
"We reviewed OChem and Biology MCAT passages, and also some questions the student brought up from the practice exam."
"The student and I spent the entire session reviewing her recent attempt at a practice test. This was the first chance she had had to look over her test, so we took our time, methodically reviewing each incorrect answer or question she had difficulty with. We had a lengthy detour into the details of glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, and the electron transport chain. We will meet in one week to cover any last areas of weakness and send her into her test feeling prepared and confident."
"The student was great today, we went over a lot of studying techniques for the assessment test along with a plan for how to approach everything on the exam and best ways to prepare. We also set up the goals for the next couple sessions and a deadline to finish all the study books, and then finish the first practice test by next Thursday. We also went through the first couple passages of the Psych/Soc section of the exam to work through a few problems."
"Today, we did a final review before the ACT this weekend. We covered all sections except Reading. The student is doing an awesome job and has come a long way on her strategy and content knowledge. Her biggest weakness is misreading part of the problem (e.g., reading diameter as radius, etc.). If she slows down a bit and reads very carefully, I think she'll do well!"
