"The student has an outline that he's working on for his Odyssey essay. He needed to come up with a thesis before he began writing his outline with the subtopics and claims. We discussed several ideas, and he came up with the theme of loyalty. He completed his first subtopic with two claims, and started to work on his second. I asked him to do more searching for quotes in his book to go with his next paragraphs before we meet for our next session."
"This was the final session for the student before he takes the ACT. We did just the first 40 questions to check his pacing and whether or not he was missing too many easy points. He knows the content at this point, but he has relied on shortcuts to increase the speed at which he does the test. Training him out of this habit has been methodical, and while we have made significant progress, it will depend on his execution on the test. He totally has the capability to score above a 27, and he now has the tools to achieve it."
"We worked on the sight words "this" and "is." I started a test on the sight words we had already learned. He was able to handle looking at about 30/50 before he needed a break. There was no practice with sticky yarn today, but we did manage to play two games of Bingo. We finally moved to the second set of Bingo words, as I think he has a pretty good handle on the first set now."
"The session went really well today. While the student did not do well on his practice exam we went over his math session and discussed why he got them wrong and worked to build up his confidence. He is going to work on another math section and reading section for homework. "
"Today, the student and I worked on Newman projections, radical energy diagrams, and determining final products of radicals based on energy diagrams. She had a good attitude toward material, and did very well. I included many external resources for her to use in further preparation for her exam."
"We had a great first lesson covering the plan for prepping him for her test in Biology. We covered the basis of ecology, levels of organization, food webs, and ecological pyramid models. His homework is to make flashcards of key terms."
