This allows them to avoid the confusion and frustration that often comes with mathematics homework.

Each of the tutors that Varsity Tutors can find for you in Sterling Heights, MI, are experienced in teaching elementary math. They could help to understand how your student learns - what their strengths are, their weaknesses, and the most useful learning strategies they implement already. Then, they will create a way to try to help your child improve in math that will work to their advantage. Tutors will only teach the areas that your student needs to know so that your sessions are efficient and effective, rather than bogged down by unimportant material that they already know.

Strong math skills are important for children from a young age, as they will need to use their foundation in math as they take other courses like geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus and statistics. Learning math could prepare your student for the M-STEP and MME. Session Summaries by Elementary Math Tutors

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Thien--Gia in Sterling Heights, MI
We initially covered fractions. When it came to this, we went over adding fractions, including ones with denominators that weren't similar. After solving the problems, the student was asked to simplify them. She struggled with it at first, especially when it came to the problems where the fractions didn't have similar denominators, but she eventually was able to grasp it and solve them all! Afterwards, we touched up on subtraction with large numbers. Overall, I see that she's starting to grasp everything at a faster rate, and I can see her improving.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Alison in Sterling Heights, MI
We worked on the student's math homework, which involved multiplying two numbers with two non-zero digits. While multiplying each one using the classic long form method would have been sufficient, we also checked her answers using the chocolate bar method. By the end of the worksheet, she was very proficient in both. We also worked on studying for her social studies quiz the next day and reviewing the layers of the earth for her science quiz next week. She is very bright and did an excellent job this session.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Nicole in Sterling Heights, MI
The student's mother sent over a quiz he took prior to starting to work with me. He is able to complete quiz corrections for extra points. We worked through each part of the quiz, and he corrected the entire quiz. He saw some of the mistakes that he made after we discussed how to solve them. After completing the corrections, he did a further review of the concepts he struggled with on the quiz, as these will also be the types of questions on his test Tuesday. We worked with finding and solving a number sentence using base 10 blocks, writing the value of a decimal digit, and comparing decimals. Learning to line up the numbers to compare them was very helpful for him, and he was great at this by the end. I am going to set up a review of the entire chapter for Monday's session.

This session, I helped the student with his math homework. We also did additional practice with long division and multiplying 3 digit numbers by 1 and 2 digit numbers with a worksheet provided by his mother. He was able to solve all problems with little assistance.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Sara in Sterling Heights, MI
Half of this session was spent on math and the other half was spent on cursive. Following a review of the 4 times table, I tested the student in preparation for her quiz. She knew the entire 4 times table, although she made a few mistakes when she thought of the 3 times table instead of the 4. She also did around 7 multiplication problems on one of her apps on the iPad. For cursive, we reviewed the letters that she already knew. She then learned how the write the letters p and e.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Josh in Sterling Heights, MI
We spent most of our time looking at Pythagorean triples and going back over how to calculate the third number of a triple given two others. We also spent time looking at the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci sequence, and talked a bit about where this special ratio shows up in the world.
