How can a Elementary Math tutor help you?

In today's technologically driven world, math has become an increasingly necessary skill. However, despite its importance to several professions, many feel challenged when asked to do math either on the job or in the classroom. It can be a challenging skill to understand, and there are categories and subcategories of knowledge, all of which seem to build upon one another. As you trace that thread back, you'll eventually find the subject of elementary math, or the math concepts that are taught to elementary school-aged children. Without a solid understanding of elementary math, students will find it harder and harder to progress with their math education as they get older. If your child is struggling with elementary math, one of the great ways to rectify that is through the help of a tutor. If that sounds helpful to you, the educational directors at Varsity Tutors are well-versed in helping students in Duval County, FL, find an elementary math tutor.

The educational directors at Varsity Tutors could help you find an elementary math tutor in Duval County who can offer your child unique learning benefits that simply aren't realistic in the typical classroom setting. For starters, your child's tutor will work with them to develop a learning plan that features targeted lessons, designed to solve whatever problems have arisen. They will be able to ask their tutor the questions they have right away, instead of waiting until their teacher has time to work with them individually. The tutoring experience is also less distracting than a typical classroom setting, where various competing interests battle for your child's attention.

Session Summaries by Elementary Math Tutors

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Chelsea in Duval County, FL
Today we covered double conversions, which the student seems much more confident on. He has them down conceptually, and just needs to be mindful of the operations asked for. He did struggle a bit with certain metric conversions, so I will continue to work with him on that. We also worked on story problems that require guessing. He has really embraced the chart-making idea, which I was pleased to see, and it looks like it works for him. We did spend some time reviewing his homework, which he did not have much trouble with today.

Today, the student completed math homework involving converting fractions to improper and mixed fractions and story problems. We covered the steps involved to convert from one to the other. He also began a literature assignment about Martin Luther King, Jr. that he needed to finish at home. He had a great introductory sentence!

The student had just had a math test covering the addition and subtraction of fractions, percentage conversion to decimals, and decimal addition. She said that took all the time needed to finish the exam and that she felt very confident. As a result, today was relaxed, reviewing her addition and subtraction of fractions with a mix of improper and mixed fractions.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Jacqueline in Duval County, FL
Today's session started with the student's Literature homework. He had to complete a project answering questions from a passage on Thurgood Marshall. First, we read through the passage. Then, after reading each question, I guided him in finding and writing out the answers. Next, he had Math homework from his textbook involving decimals and fractions. He had to write decimals as a fraction or a mixed number in simplest form. In another section, he had to write fractions or mixed numbers as a decimal. He also had to match given fractions to decimals. He was responsive to the material reviewed and was able to complete the problems independently. The session went very well, as he completed all his homework, showing mastery of the concepts involved.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Carl in Duval County, FL
We worked on finding the greatest common factor using prime factorization. I brought a practice sheet, and we did problems. We also discussed strategies for using compatible numbers to perform mental math. We also looked at some problems from a standardized test practice book and discussed strategies such as guess and check. His attitude was great, and I look forward to meeting with him again! The plan is to work from the practice book, and he will attempt to get a rough idea of what topics he will be studying in class in the upcoming week so I can preteach.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Kenneth in Duval County, FL
Math concepts were reviewed for an upcoming test. These included: angles (acute, right, and obtuse); equivalent fractions; word problems; multiples; paired factors; parallel and perpendicular lines; and line segments, rays, and lines. The student had a good understanding of these concepts, and the review went well. The greatest win from this session was that he is ready not only for his test but to try to get into the advanced math class at his school. He had been hesitant prior to this time.
