Elementary mathematics consists of the topics that are frequently taught at both primary and secondary school levels. Elementary mathematics includes topics such as divisibility, exponents, multiples, primes, factors, and so much more. In order for your child to succeed in a mathematics class, he or she must focus on the principles, learn proper math vocabulary, and build cumulatively on their knowledge. If your son or daughter is struggling in their elementary math class, Varsity Tutors will locate an elementary math tutor in Canton who will use the most up-to-date resources to try to help your child excel in elementary math.

The private tutors whom Varsity Tutors could help you find in Canton, OH, are professionals who are experienced in working to help students try to understand the finer points of elementary math. Your child's private tutor will make sure that your little one is comfortable and relaxed in their learning environment. Working with a tutor one-on-one allows for the tutor and the tutee to build a strong bond. In turn, the tutee will feel much more relaxed and unnerved while participating in sessions. Sessions are always distraction-free. Both your little one and their tutor will be able to focus solely on math. Working with a private tutor also allows for your son or daughter to receive immediate feedback and assistance. The private tutor will acknowledge your child's errors, and then work with your child to correct those errors in hopes that the errors are not repeated again in the future. You may also always be in the know when it comes to your little one's progress and in which areas he or she needs to try to improve. An elementary math tutor in Canton, OH, could break down the most complicated concepts in a way that is easy for your son or daughter to understand. Most importantly, one-on-one tutoring allows for the tutee to try to get an edge on other students.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Kayla in Canton, OH
During this session, we covered number words and standard form. We discussed length and volume, such as how volume is measured with a graduated cylinder, and we reviewed the metric system. We discussed the difference between mass and weight, grams, tonne, and kilograms. Additionally, we had time to go over vocabulary words with the suffix -tion (decorate, decoration; operate, operation, etc.). The student has difficulty with the metric system and understanding the difference between mass and weight. This is a hard concept, and it has just been introduced. We will complete a science experiment to help her visualize the differences. I also provided a list of needed household items.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Scott in Canton, OH
I spent the first 15 minutes with Student 1, going over writing numbers and doing basic addition. I then worked with Student 2. We first went over some things he's doing in school, and then we reviewed multiplication. He's also starting to do some geometry in class, so we spent some time on area and perimeter. At the end, we reviewed the work on fractions, which we had gone over in the previous session. He seems to have a good grasp on all the material.

Today, we did exercises that reviewed concepts from 3rd grade. The student did very well and he had a good understanding of the material. He has also been improving by not using his fingers to add and subtract. We will continue to work on this.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Suzanne in Canton, OH
The student and I worked on letter recognition and letter sounds. We focused on beginning letter sounds of words. She is able to sound out and read 3-letter words. In math, we worked on counting to 20, which she is able to do consistently, but does still get 16, 17, 18, and 19 mixed up. She will obviously get this straight in time. We also started working on adding one-digit numbers.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Sara in Canton, OH
This session was spent only on math. For part of the time, I reviewed and then tested the student on the 5 and 9 times tables. The majority of the time was spent on solving word problems she got from her teacher. She was able to figure out most of the problems with only a little or no help from me. She needed additional help for a couple questions. One involved multiplying numbers with multiple digits (ex. 53.75x3), so I taught her how to do this type of problem. She caught on very quickly.
