"Today the student and I went through the first half of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in preparation for his quiz this week. He seemed to grasp the plot well, and has read the book before. I intend to finish going through the book with him tomorrow."
"Last night we read and dissected an essay on Civil Disobedience. As the essay is extremely wordy, we unpacked it in small sections and picked out the main points. He is doing an excellent job of taking notes, which is a huge improvement. We talked out the essay, and by the end he had a strong grasp on the main argument of the piece as well as the examples and points laid out."
"We went over the student's homework for this past week, which included an essay question, Critical Reading questions, vocabulary, and paragraph/sentence correction questions. We discussed grammatical rules that would help with sentence correction questions and essay writing and finding common root words, suffixes and prefixes to help infer the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary. We spent much of today on grammar and sentence corrections, since the student mentioned last time that those are the areas where she feels the most challenged on the SAT Verbal Section. I assigned her a timed SAT essay question for next week, asking her to outline it first and then write the essay. I also assigned her a variety of different sections, particularly focusing on Sentence Correction, grammar, and vocabulary but also including Critical Reading."
